GEORGETOWN, Ky. (April 12, 2017) - The Milligan College baseball team hit the road for a nonconference doubleheader at Georgetown College on Wednesday. The Buffs were able to fend off a late Tiger rally in game one for an 8-6 win and ran away with a 6-1 win in game two.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
In game one, the Buffs set the tone early with a five run first inning.
Clayton Conner started the game with an RBI single to right, followed by a bases loaded walk, RBI fielder's choice, and an error from the Tigers, all of which contributed to the Buffalo scoring.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Leading 6-3 going into the top of the sixth, the Buffs added a pair of insurance runs to keep their distance from Georgetown.
Ryan Young and
Justin Pearson had back to back RBI singles and gave Milligan a seemingly insurmountable 8-3 lead. However, the Tigers had one last rally in the bottom of the seventh. A Milligan error and an RBI double from the Tigers sparked a three run inning, but Buffalo closer
Dustin Cole rallied for a pair of strikeouts to end the Georgetown threat.
ÂÂ
In game two, the Buffs took another early 5-0 lead during the first two innings. Conner got things started again with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Jascanel Ferreras. During the next at-bat, Young doubled to left and scored
Andrew Copas from second and gave Milligan the first two runs of the game.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
In the bottom of the second, three consecutive two-out hits scored three more runs. Ferreras started the hit parade off with a single up the middle, scoring
Nate Clifton on the play. Ferreras scored his second run of the day on the next play when Copas doubled to deep right-center. During the next at-bat, Conner got his third RBI of the day with a double to right and scored Copas.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Unlike game one, Georgetown never generated a rally for a comeback, and Milligan cruised to a 6-1 victory. With the wins, Milligan improved to 21-20 on the season.ÂÂ
