Baseball drops series opener to No. 20 Bryan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 14, 2017) â€" The Milligan College baseball team suffered an 11-1 loss to No. 20 Bryan College Friday night at Anglin Field in an Appalachian Athletic Conference series opener.
 
Seven Buffs had hits in the loss, led by Nate Clifton who was 2-for-3. Juan Vasquez was 1-for-2 and scored the Buffs' only run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a wild pitch. He had reached on a one-out walk in the inning then advanced around to third on a Clifton single and Justin Pearson flyout to left.
 
Starting pitcher Wyatt Richardson was saddled the loss as he saw an early exit in the middle of the second inning. The junior right-hander, who was sharp in his last start with eight innings of five-hit ball, surrendered five runs in the first, all of which came with two out. Bryan did the same plus one in the second inning, scoring five runs on five hits and an error to put the game out of reach.
 
Luke Spaulding was first out of the bullpen and pitched three solid innings of relief, allowing only four hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
 
Milligan and Bryan will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, scheduled for 1 p.m. back on Anglin Field. After that, the Buffs will hit the road for University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday followed by a home AAC series next weekend versus St. Andrews University.
