Buffs lose at Bluefield in three

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Sept. 26, 2017) â€" Senior Marissa Langford led all attackers with 18 kills and only four errors, but the Milligan College volleyball team fell in three sets, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14, to Bluefield College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match Tuesday evening on the road.
 
Langford added 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore setter Kellee Geren, the reigning AAC setter of the year, tallied 30 assists and six digs, and junior libero Alyssa Rupert earned nine digs.
 
Bluefield had six players with multiple kills and used a 12-4 run at the end of the first set to take control of the match. It started with Milligan ahead 15-13 when the Lady Rams put down three consecutive kills to take the lead for good. Similarly in the second game, with the score tied 7-7 the Lady Rams earned an ace followed by back-to-back kills, and they were in the lead the rest of the way.
 
Milligan did manage to pull the middle set to within one point late, 22-21 and 23-22, but Bluefield had the answer on both points.
 
In the final set, Bluefield used a 17-8 run to close the match. The Lady Rams improved to an AAC second-best 9-9 (6-2 AAC).
 
Milligan will play again on the road on Friday at Emory & Henry College at 6:30 p.m. The match will be part of Big Buff Weekend where Milligan students are encouraged to attend the match to be entered to win prizes.
