Volleyball wins thrilling nonconference match in four

EMORY, Va. (Sept. 29, 2017) â€" The Milligan College volleyball team traveled to Emory & Henry College for their third straight road match and came away with a victory. The Buffs earned the win in four very competitive sets (25-21, 31-33, 25-23, 25-22).

For the ninth match in a row, senior Marissa Langford led the Buffaloes with 26 kills, just one short of her career high, with only five errors. Langford also tallied five digs on the night. Junior Alyssa Rupert led Milligan with 25 digs and following was senior Alora Ricker with 20 digs. Sophomore setter Kellee Geren was just three short of her career high (53) assists. Geren and junior Rebecca Maxwell had 14 digs apiece to help the Buffaloes claim their victory.

Milligan kept the lead throughout the entire first set never letting Emory & Henry gain the momentum. Though the Wasps compiled two more kills than the Buffs, the final point of the set was won by a Langford kill. It took 64 rallies for the Wasps to take the second set. Milligan and Emory & Henry tied in the second set a total of 20 times. Both teams had 19 kills apiece. At 24-21, the Buffs beat themselves with three straight attack errors losing the lead (24-25). The Wasps sealed the second set win with two kills after 31 apiece.

The Buffs came out ready to attack in sets three and four out-killing the Wasps 17-11 and 15-10, respectively. After the 16-16 tie in the third set, Milligan took off from there and did not let Emory & Henry take the lead though they trailed by one or two points. The final point of the third set was earned by a Langford kill again. Much like the third set, the Buffs and Wasps had 12 apiece but Milligan took off from there keeping the lead until the final point of the match.

Up next, the Buffs return home Tuesday, Oct. 3, for an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest against the Montreat College Cavaliers.? Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
