Women's soccer earns first AAC shutout

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 27) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team earned their third straight win and second Appalachian Athletic Conference victory Wednesday evening in a contest against the Bluefield College Rams. The Buffs pulled away with another shutout, 2-0.

Milligan's offense dominated the game outshooting the Rams 12-1 in the first half and 8-2 in the second. Freshman Poppy Smith led the Buffs with six shots alongside junior Amy Olvera and sophomore Dharma Fawbush with three apiece. Furthermore, Milligan earned three more corner kicks than Bluefield.

In the first three minutes of the game, Fawbush found the back of the net for the fourth time this season off assists from both Alyson McMillan and Madison Thomas. McMillan passed it back to Thomas and Thomas proceeded to one touch it to Fawbush in the top of the penalty box. Twenty four minutes later Olvera connected for her second goal of the season off an assist by Smith.

Both Milligan goalkeepers, Eva Bower and Taylor Robinson, saw action tonight. Robinson earned her first two saves of the season.

Up next, the Buffs face AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. Milligan is back on the road for more conference action Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Montreat College.
