Women's soccer ties No. 25 Tennessee Wesleyan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 30, 2017) â€" After playing into a double overtime against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Reinhardt University earlier this season, the Milligan College women's soccer team did so again against the No. 25 Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs putting up a 1-1 draw Saturday evening at Anglin Field.

The Buffaloes (6-1-2 overall) continue to take steps in the right direction after winning three straight games. Milligan has yet to be defeated in conference play thus far (2-0-2) unlike the Bulldogs that are now 3-1-1 in the conference.

Milligan was led by freshman standout Ellie Cachiaras with three shots, all shots on goal. Sophomore Dharma Fawbush, junior Amy Long and senior Sami Joy all tallied two shots apiece.

It only took 7:19 for Fawbush to find the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season following a corner kick by sophomore Alyson McMillan and off of an assist by Joy. Despite the Bulldogs outshooting the Buffaloes 9-6 in the first half, Milligan's defense battled hard and did not let up a single goal the rest of the half.

The second half was controlled by the Bulldogs as they outshot the Buffs 9-4. In the 78th minute of the game Tennessee Wesleyan managed to connect for a goal following a free kick. The Bulldogs also earned six more corner kicks than the Buffs. Twelve more minutes were played and it was a defensive war without either team capable of connecting for another goal forcing overtime play.

Milligan's defense continued to be tested as Wesleyan outshot the Buffs 3-0 in the first overtime period. The second 10 minutes of overtime were much like the first in that no goal was scored. The Buffs were capable of earning two corner kicks which resulted in a shot on goal by Joy.

Freshman goalkeeper Eva Bower had a career high of 11 saves on the night, most of which were very crucial saves.

Up next, the Buffs are back on the road for another conference matchup against Montreat College on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and will return home Saturday, Oct. 7, for more AAC play against Point University.
