MONTREAT, N.C. (Sept. 4, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team hit the road for their second game of the season on Monday to face the Bob Jones University Bruins. The Buffs battled for their first win of the season defeating the Bruins 4-2.
Last season the Bruins beat the Buffaloes 4-2 but the Buffs' offense came out ready to attack Monday night. Sophomores Bekah Cundiff and Dharma Fawbush struck early for the Buffaloes. Cundiff connected the first goal in the first seven minutes of the game with an assist by junior Amy Long. Fawbush went on to connect the second goal for the Buffs, also early in the first half, with an assist from Cundiff.
Alongside the 11 shots taken by the Bruins in the first period, freshman goalkeeper, Eva Bower, made her collegiate debut tallying three saves. Bower tallied five more saves in the second period despite the Bruins' ten shots and two goals.
Senior Sami Joy came back out and sparked the offense in the first three minutes of the second half scoring her first goal of the season for the Buffaloes. The Bruins answered quickly with their first goal of the game four minutes later. One minute later Cundiff scored her second goal of the season, assisted by freshman midfielder, Poppy Smith. The Bruins connected their second and final goal with four minutes left in the game.
The Buffs return home for action on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. as they face off Emory & Henry College.
