Women's volleyball suffers first AAC loss to Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's volleyball team traveled to Montreat, North Carolina, Wednesday night to play their first Appalachian Athletic Conference game of the 2017 season. The Buffs dropped a 3-0 decision to the Montreat Cavaliers (25-22, 25-12, 25-16).
 
Senior Alora Ricker led the Buffaloes with 10 kills and junior Alyssa Rupert led with 14 digs. Junior Rebecca Maxwell also helped the Buffs tallying seven kills and eight digs in her first match of the season. Ricker also compiled a total of seven digs. Sophomore setter Kellee Geren had a total of 23 assists for the Buffs.
 
The Buffs lost a very close first set to the Cavaliers. It was close majority of the game up until 18 apiece and then the Cavaliers pulled away winning 25-22. The Cavaliers earned the first three points of the second game but soon the Buffaloes picked up the pace and led 11-10. Montreat, however, pulled away yet again taking the second set 25-12. The Cavaliers went on to win the first four points of the third set and kept the lead all the way to point 25 sealing the victory over Milligan.
 
The Buffs will return home for their second conference game of the season against Union College on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
