Women's soccer blanks St. Andrews, 5-0

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2018) â€" After a near two-week break from competition, the Milligan College women's soccer team showed no signs of rust Wednesday at Anglin Field as the Buffs defeated visiting St. Andrews University 5-0 for an Appalachian Athletic Conference win.

Milligan moved to 5-5-1 (4-3 AAC) this season, winning for the third time in the last four matches. St. Andrews dropped to 0-6 (0-5 AAC).

FOUR BUFFS SCORE IN LOP-SIDED WIN
If anything, the hiatus had the Buffs looking fresh, and it showed within minutes of kickoff when freshman Ashlen Burch connected with freshman Isabella Cranford in the 11th minute via a corner kick to put Milligan up top 1-0 and into the lead for good. The goal marked Cranford's third of the season and Burch's second assist of the season.

Fifteen minutes later, junior Bekah Cundiff scored her team leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from senior Amy Olvera, and the Buffs took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Milligan dominated the possession in the first half with only a 2-0 lead to show for it, but the Buffs more than doubled the lead in the second. Cundiff scored her second goal of the match less than five minutes in to make it 3-0, then sophomore Macey Kennedy and Olvera scored back-to-back goals within a span of roughly three minutes to round out the scoring.

Olvera's goal was her fourth of the season while Kennedy scored for the first time in her career. Sophomore Kasey Moore had the assist on Kennedy's goal, marking the first point of her career.

BY THE NUMBERS
Milligan outshot St. Andrews 32-3 (18-1 on shots on goal) and posted a 17-0 advantage on corner kicks. Milligan's 32 total shots marked a season high and came from 14 Buffs. Burch led the way with six shots, and Cundiff and Alyson McMillan took four apiece as the only other Buffs with more than two.

In total, Cundiff's two goals for the match brought her season total to seven. Junior Dharma Fawbush contributed two assists.

Eva Bower and Miriam Janoyan shared time in the net for Milligan. Bower posted a clean sheet, only facing one shot, in the first half; Janoyan faced two shots and made one save in a scoreless second half. The win marked Milligan's third shutout of the season.
