MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2018) â€" Senior
Caroline Little led the Milligan College volleyball team to an early 5-0 lead in the first set, and the Buffaloes never looked back as they picked up their 20th win of the season with a straight set sweep (25-12, 25-16, 25-13) of Brenau University (2-24, 1-15 AAC) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match on senior night, Friday. The win marks the Buffaloes 11th straight win as they remain atop the AAC North with a 20-4 overall record and a 13-2 clip in conference.
BY THE NUMBERS
Junior setter,
Kellee Geren, orchestrated the Buffs offensive attack with 21 assists and also came away with four kills and six digs. Geren's top target for the match was
Alyssa Gibson who finished off six of her 19 attempts.
Julie Dockery recorded a match-high .667 hitting percentage with four kills on six attempts and no errors.
Elise Gregory put down four kills, and
Julia Codispoti and
Abby Falcone each posted three to round out the attack for Milligan. Codispoti also set a career high for blocks with four.
Defensively, the Buffs were led as usual by senior libero,
Alyssa Rupert, who scooped up a match-high 13 digs. Rupert, the nation's leader in digs/set, has recorded the match-high for digs in 13 straight and 22 of 24 matches this season. Freshmen
Layla Grant and Gregory added six digs to help anchor the Milligan backrow.
The Buffs dominated the service game with 10 aces led by Geren's three. Rupert, Grant and Gregory each followed with two, while Little finished with one. For the match, Milligan held Brenau to a -.053 hitting percentage and forced 24 attack errors and 11 service errors.
Milligan has now swept five straight matches with the win over the Golden Tigers and nine overall during their 11 game win streak.
UP NEXT
Milligan kicks off their longest road trip of the season Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they travel to Athens, Tennessee, for a conference match against Tennessee Wesleyan. The Buffs will then face Montreat Oct. 26 and Truett McConnell Oct. 30 before returning home to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse for their final home contest of the season against Union Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. Milligan is currently 5-0 on the road during the 2018 campaign.
