DAYTON, Tenn. (Oct. 20, 2018) â€" Freshman
Ashlen Burch scored her fourth goal of the season to help send the Milligan College women's soccer team to a big win over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bryan College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon. The victory was Milligan's third win in the last four matches.
ÂÂ
Milligan (6-6-1, 5-4 AAC) came into the match one game back of Bryan (6-8-1, 5-4-1 AAC) and in seventh place in the league but used the victory to improve its rank and draw within one point of the Lions. In fact, the Buffaloes are now sixth with 15 points and are one point shy of fourth place, with three matches remaining in the regular season.
ÂÂ
The win also snapped a string of three straight matches in which the Lions were undefeated, and Bryan had also won four of its last six entering Saturday's contest.
ÂÂ
BURCH INSTRUMENTAL IN BOTH GOALS
Milligan got on the board first in the 14th minute of action when Burch's corner kick crossed in toward the goal was deflected by a Bryan defender into the back of the net. It put the Buffs on top 1-0, and Burch doubled the lead 20 minutes later with a strike from long range which she tucked into the bottom corner of the netting.
ÂÂ
The score tied Burch for second on the team in goals this season, matching
Amy Olvera who also has four.
Bekah Cundiff continues to lead the Buffs with seven.
ÂÂ
Burch's goal made it 2-0 and finished the scoring for both teams, despite both teams having several more close opportunities the rest of the way.
ÂÂ
BY THE NUMBERS
Milligan led the shot count 11-8, including 5-4 on shots on goal.
Amy Long, Burch and
Poppy Smith led the way with two shots apiece, while five Buffs accounted for one shot on goal apiece.
ÂÂ
