MONTREAT, N.C. (Oct. 26, 2018) â€"
Elise Gregory drove home a match-high 10 kills to lead the Milligan College volleyball team to their 13th straight win with a straight set sweep (25-22, 25-13, 25-23) of Appalachian Athletic Conference member Montreat College Friday night inside McAlister Gym.
With the win, Milligan (22-4, 15-2) swept the season series with Montreat (14-17, 9-9) as they continue to roll through the AAC North with a perfect 10-0 record inside their own division. The Buffs also improved their record away from Steve Lacy Fieldhouse to 7-0 on the year with only one road contest remaining.
In a back-and-forth affair first set that saw 14 ties, Milligan used a 3-0 run with the score tied at 16 all to put breathing room between them and the Cavaliers. The Buffs would keep Montreat at arm's length for the rest of the game to hold on for a 25-22 win.
Milligan used runs of 4-0, 6-0, 3-0 and 3-0 to route Montreat in the second frame 25-13 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third and final set proved to be the closest of the match as the Cavaliers dug themselves out of an early hole to make things interesting late. Down the stretch, the score was tied at 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 all as neither team would allow the other to gain control of the set. Milligan would capture the next two points thanks to a
Cameron McConnell kill and a Montreat attack error to finish off the sweep.
