Buffs pick up first AAC point

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Oct. 3, 2018) â€" Roberto Fernandez Garrido scored the game-tying goal for the Milligan College men's soccer team as they played to a 1-1 draw against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bluefield College (2-6-1, 1-4-1 AAC) Wednesday night at East River Soccer Complex. With the draw, the Buffaloes were able to pick up their first conference point of the season as they are now 4-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in AAC play.

The Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute as Duarte Ferreira snuck one past Milligan goalkeeper Luke Dove on a penalty kick. Minutes later, Garrido would knot the score at one with his team-leading ninth goal of the season in what proved to be the final score of the match. Joel Dominguez provided the assist.

Throughout the course of the second half and overtime periods, the Buffs came ever so close to notching the game winning goal but just could not convert. Dominguez, Garrido and Robell Habte were all denied on great looks by Rams keeper Sven Kleinhans who recorded 10 saves on the night.

BY THE NUMBERS
Garrido once again led the Buffs offensive attack with six shots (three on goal) and was followed by R. Habte who produced four shots that were all on frame. Dominguez (three shots), Harry Griffin (two shots) and Luis de la Torre (two shots) contributed offensively as well.

Milligan outshot Bluefield 18 to 14 on the evening, and racked up 11 shots on goal compared to the Rams six. Dove posted four saves for the match.
