Kellee Geren was accredited for 69 assists and
Alyssa Rupert anchored the defense with 64 digs as the Milligan College volleyball team (16-4, 9-2 AAC) won both of their matches in Saturday's tri-match against St. Andrews (4-7, 2-2 AAC) and Emory & Henry (4-14).
The Buffaloes took down Appalachian Athletic Conference member St. Andrews in four sets (25-12, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19) and followed with a sweep of Emory & Henry (25-22, 25-19, 25-23) to extend their longest win streak of the season to seven.
GEREN'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE GUIDES BUFFS PAST KNIGHTS
The Buffs came out strong in set number one posting a .419 hitting percentage led by
Abby Falcone's seven kills en route to a 25-12 win.
The Knights would bounce back in the second frame holding off a late charge from Milligan to tie the match at one set apiece.
In the third, it was another back and forth affair as there were 29 ties and 12 lead changes, but Milligan would close on a 7-3 run to take the 2-1 advantage.
Milligan jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the fourth and final set and finished off the Knights with a 10-4 run to win the match.
Geren tallied her 10th double-double of the season racking up 43 assists and 14 digs.
Elise Gregory was one of Geren's top targets on the match as she put down 15 kills and added eight digs.
Falcone finished with 14 kills on 27 attempts and only three errors for a .407 hitting percentage.
Julie Dockery drove home 13 attacks and
Alyssa Gibson recorded six to round out the Buffs offensive attack.
Milligan continued to show why they are one of the better defensive teams in the league as they came away with 89 digs led by the nation's leader in digs/set, Rupert, who scooped up 36 digs. Freshmen
Layla Grant and
Cameron McConnell helped anchor the back line with 14 and eight digs respectively.
In total, Milligan finished with a .228 hitting percentage compared to the Knights .129 and outpointed St. Andrews 74-50.
CODISPOTI POWERS BUFFS PAST EMORY & HENRY
Julia Codispoti led Milligan in the sweep of Emory & Henry with a season-high 11 kills on 22 attempts for a .409 hitting percentage along with two blocks.
It was a slow start for the Buffs in their second and final match of the day as they found themselves trailing 19-12 midway through the first set. But, the Buffs would begin to get things rolling and closed on a 13-3 run to steal the first game.
In the second, Milligan used several small runs to slowly pull away from the Wasps for a 25-19 victory and eventually finished off the match in set number three.
Geren facilitated the offense with 26 assists and fell three digs shy of her second straight double-double. Falcone and Gregory registered seven kills apiece, while Dockery and Gibson collected four each.
Rupert once again produced a match-high 28 digs for an average of 9.3 per set, while McConnell and Grant each added six to help solidify the Buffs defense.
