Kellee Geren set a career high for assists in a three set match with 38 and the Milligan College volleyball team extended their win streak to eight games with a straight set (25-20, 26-24, 25-20) victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan. The victory improved the Buffaloes record to 17-4 overall and they are now two games up on the Bulldogs (12-13, 8-4) atop the AAC North division with a 10-2 record.

In the first set, Milligan used a 5-2 run capped off by a
Julia Codispoti kill set up by Geren to jump out to the early 1-0 advantage.
The second game proved to be the closest of the three with 10 ties as it was a seesaw battle between both squads. Tennessee Wesleyan held match point at 24-23, but the Buffs rallied to tie it on a Codispoti kill and subsequently scored the next two points to take the two games to none lead.
Milligan posted the first four points of the final frame, but Wesleyan would bounce back with a 7-1 run of their own. Late in the match, the Buffs held an 18-17 lead and would then go on a 7-3 run to finish off the Bulldogs in straight sets.
BY THE NUMBERS
Elise Gregory was Geren's top target on the night as she put down 14 kills on 30 attempts followed by Codispoti with 10.
Alyssa Gibson drove home nine kills, and
Julie Dockery and
Abby Falcone added seven apiece to strengthen the Buffs attack.
On the defensive end, the reigning AAC and NAIA defender of the week,
Alyssa Rupert, scooped up a match-high 24 digs and
Layla Grant recorded 12. The Buffs held the Bulldog's top hitter Sydney Ritten to seven kills on the match and the team to a .098 hitting percentage.
Milligan and Tennessee Wesleyan will face off one more time this season Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in Athens, Tennessee.
