Buffs stay perfect with win at Warren Wilson

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 10, 2018) â€" Junior Kaely Gose registered career highs of 28 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Milligan College women's basketball team to its third straight win to open the season Saturday at Warren Wilson College. The Buffs scored 10 straight points in the second quarter and used a 10-2 run to start the fourth quarter to pull away for an 89-80 victory.
 
Milligan (3-0, 1-0 AAC) trailed 28-27 with five and a half minutes left in the second quarter before unleashing a 10-0 run which put the Buffs into the lead for good. Gose scored one of her 12 made baskets on a jumper from 10 feet to start the run and followed with the next two buckets for seven straight points by herself.
 
It helped the Buffs go out to a 46-37 lead at the break, and they continued to put the pressure on Warren Wilson (0-5), expanding the lead to 13 at the end of the third quarter, 75-62. Sarah Robinson then got the fourth-quarter surge going for the Buffs, scoring on a fast break to start a 10-2 run, which included eight straight points.
 
Emma Kate Brown hit a 3-pointer during the ensuing stretch, and Andi Lamb closed the run with a fast break layup which made it 85-64, Milligan's largest lead of the game.
 
Warren Wilson, which opened the season with an 84-69 loss to Appalachian Athletic Conference member Montreat College, closed the game on a 16-4 run, but it was too late by that point.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Gose's career highs in points and rebounds came from a 12-for-18 effort from the field and 1-for-1 effort from three. Robinson was next in the scoring column with 17 points and 14 rebounds, her and Gose's first double-doubles of the year. Gose had 11 defensive rebounds; Robinson had 12 defensive rebounds.
 
Mackenzie Raizor, freshman Hannah Wyrick, Brown and Lamb followed with nine points apiece.
 
For Warren Wilson, Danasia Dumas entered the game averaging 23.0 points per game and led all scorers with 39 on 14-of-32 shooting. She was 3-for-9 from three and added eight rebounds.

Milligan returns home for its next two games, starting with AAC foe St. Andrews University Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 5:30 p.m. Milligan is 12-0 against St. Andrews since the Knights joined the league for the 2012-13 season.
