Balanced Buffs thump Knights for fourth straight win

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2018) â€" Fifteen Buffs made it into the scoring column with none scoring more than 13 points, and the Milligan College women's basketball team took care of business with an 85-63 victory over St. Andrews University Tuesday evening inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
The win was Milligan's fourth straight to start the season as the Buffaloes (4-0, 2-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) stayed perfect so far in the 2018-19 season. It also improved Milligan to 13-0 against St. Andrews (0-4, 0-3 AAC) since the Knights joined the league for the 2012-13 season.
 
LEADERS
Sarah Robinson (13 points) and Kaely Gose (10 points) were the only Buffs in double figures, but a balanced offense saw 10 score multiple baskets. Robinson added four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Gose added four rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals.
 
Teal Davis, Emma Kate Brown and Emily Kiser all came off the bench to score seven. Mackenzie Raizor, Hannah Wyrick, Savannah Raizor and Lexi Weddle each scored six.
 
Rebecca Maxwell led the Buffs on the glass with six rebounds.
 
BUFFS TAKE OFF IN FIRST HALF
Milligan held St. Andrews scoreless for the last minute of the first quarter and again for the first four and a half minutes of the second quarter, during which time the Buffaloes went on a 12-0 run to build a 27-11 lead and put the game away. The run featured scoring from Gose, Kiser, Brown, M. Raizor and Robinson. Kiser made a 3-pointer to start the second quarter, and Brown followed on the next possession with an old-fashioned 3-point play.
 
Milligan went on to build its lead up to 23 late in the first half before heading into the halftime break ahead 43-22.
 
In the third quarter, Milligan used a 7-0 run, capped by a basket from Brown, to increase its lead to its highest of the game, 68-30.
 
EARLY ON
St. Andrew held three leads over the first four and a half minutes of the game before the Buffs took off. Trailing 7-5 midway through the first quarter, Milligan went into the lead for good when Wyrick hit a three to make it 8-7.
 
FOR ST. ANDREWS
Morgan Perkins, who came into the game averaging 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, led all scorers and rebounders with 21 points and 13 boards. Nijha Shannon also made it to double figures, scoring 10 points off the bench.
 
UP NEXT
Milligan will be home again Saturday for an AAC matchup against Union College. Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 4 p.m.
