Buckner, Buffs roll past Toccoa Falls

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Dec. 7, 2018) â€" Will Buckner scorched the nets for 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting and the Milligan College men's basketball team cruised to a 95-57 victory over nonconference foe Toccoa Falls inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Friday night. With the win, the Buffaloes snapped their two game losing streak and improved to 7-5 on the year, while the Screaming Eagles fell to 3-11.
 
BIG 1ST HALF RUN PUTS GAME AWAY
Jacob Cawood and Tyler Nichols jumpstarted Milligan offensively knocking down back-to-back triples in the opening minute of the game as a part of an 8-2 run. The Buffs never looked back the rest of the way as they led wire to wire.
 
Toccoa Falls fought back in the early stages drawing the game even at 13 at the 15:53 mark, but Milligan just proved to be too much. The Buffs answered with a 21-2 run to open up the game and put away the victory. Buckner scored eight of his 15 points during that stretch as he imposed his size and will inside the paint.
 
The game clinching run started at the 15:41 mark and lasted for 7:14 until the Screaming Eagles' Michael West knocked in a 3-pointer. Milligan headed into the halftime break with a 43-24 advantage.
 
In the second half, it was all Milligan as the Buffs outscored Toccoa Falls 52-33.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Aaron Levarity added in 15 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of action. The senior forward currently ranks atop the Appalachian Athletic Conference in both points per game and rebounds per game.
 
Tyler Nichols supplied 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and drained both of his 3-point attempts. Junior Desean Green stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and six assists. Fifteen of the 16 Buffs that saw action entered the scoring column.
 
Overall, Milligan shot a blistering 64.5 percent from the field, which was a season best, and held the Screaming Eagles to under 40 percent. The Buffs knocked in six triples on the evening and forced 23 turnovers.
 
Toccoa Falls was led by Kohl Phillips with 12 points and four rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
Milligan will take a week off for finals before returning to action for a pair of exhibition games against NCAA Division I opponents. The Buffs will travel to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State Thursday, Dec. 20, and will follow with a matchup against UNC Asheville Friday, Dec. 21. Both games are set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
 
Milligan returns to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse in 2019 when they host AAC foe Bluefield Thursday, Jan. 10, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
