HARROGATE, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2018) â€" Kassi Butcher's shutout and Erica Roller's RBI secured the Milligan College softball team's first victory of the 2018 season at Lincoln Memorial University. After winning game one 1-0, the Buffs finished the day with a split doubleheader against the Railsplitters losing the second game 10-2.
THE WINNING GAME
Kassi Butcher pitched a complete shutout to open her senior season.
Two doubles enabled the Buffs to score their winning run despite a ground out in between. In the top of the fourth, freshman Kaylee Frascatore doubled down the left field line. Junior Erica Roller then drove Frascatore in with a double to left center.
With two out in the bottom of the seventh and a runner on second and third, Butcher and the Buffs refused to let the season opener slip away. Lincoln Memorial's Ashlea Hunter grounded out to second while Teddi Collins followed with another ground out, this time to third.
LINCOLN RESPONDS WITH A WIN THEMSELVES
The Railsplitters got their bats swinging early with three runs in the first inning and two in the second. The Buffs then answered with a couple of runs in the third inning after a triple by Roller and Frascatore sending Roller home with a ground out to second. However, it proved not enough as Lincoln Memorial scored one more run in the fifth inning.
Overall, Roller computed three hits and two RBI's.
