Buffs fall in AAC game at No. 23 Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2018) â€" Sarah Robinson was one rebound short of registering her sixth double-double of the season and the Milligan College women's basketball team came up short 88-69 against No. 23 Bryan College Wednesday evening in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game.
 
Robinson led the Buffs with 23 points and nine rebounds while Kaely Gose added 10 points and four rebounds, but Milligan fell to 15-12 (11-10 AAC). Bryan won for the 12th time in the last 13 games to improve upon its AAC-best 21-6 (18-3 AAC) record.
 
LATE IN THE FIRST HALF
After exchanging leads and battling in a close game for the first 16 minutes, Bryan closed the first half on a 10-2 run to go into the locker room ahead 38-32, and the Lions led the rest of the way. The run featured 10 straight points from Bryan as Kasey Gordon scored the final bucket of the half to make it a six-point game.
 
EARLY IN THE SECOND HALF
Bryan came out of the locker room scoring the first five points of the second half to go back ahead by double figures. Milligan trimmed the lead down to four, 55-51, after a basket from Gose with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter, but it was as close as the Buffs would get.
 
Bryan went back out by double figures by the end of the quarter then extended the lead even further in the fourth quarter.
 
LEADERS
After Robinson and Gose, seven more Buffs entered the scoring column. Mackenzie Raizor and Andi Lamb scored eight points apiece while Emily Kiser had six and Emma Kate Brown had five. Robinson added four assists while Rebecca Maxwell, Cassidy Anderson and Lamb all registered three assists.
 
For Bryan, Deandra Luna led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Shayla Ludy scored 26 on 11-of-14 shooting, and the two combined to go 5-for-8 from 3-point territory. As a team, the Lions shot 9-for-15 from three.
 
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Milligan lost 75-61 at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse despite 15 points apiece from Robinson and Anderson. Teams were tied 38-38 at the end of the first half but Bryan pulled away with a big third quarter.
 
UP NEXT
Milligan will be on the road again for an AAC matchup at Montreat College Saturday at 2 p.m. Earlier this season Milligan topped Montreat 73-61 behind a double-double from Robinson and nine points, seven rebounds from K. Gose. Milligan's next home game is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 5:30 p.m. against Brenau University.
