Softball drops DH at King

BRISTOL, Tenn. (March 25, 2018) â€" The Milligan College softball team's seven-game winning streak was snapped on the road at King University Sunday afternoon. The Buffs (10-10, 5-3 AAC) fell in game one 9-4 and again in game two 5-3.

GAME ONE
Despite the Tornadoes coming out early in the first inning touching home twice, the Buffs' Erica Roller doubled down the left field line which sent Savannah Nocera and Cayley Shoemaker home to match (2-2). Jenna Gilbert then used the momentum to score on a wild pitch while soon after Rachel Coffey sent Roller home with a hit to left field (4-2).

King's defense was resilient keeping Milligan at four runs the rest of the way. The Tornadoes went back out in the bottom of the fourth scoring seven runs which proved to be the difference (9-4).

Roller led with two RBI's while Neelee Griffith, Kaylee Frascatore and Coffey all tallied a hit apiece. Kassi Butcher, Jaclyn Jenkins and Brianna Snyder all appeared in the circle for Milligan.

GAME TWO
Milligan led early with two runs in the top of the third. King touched home in the fourth to make it 2-1 but Gilbert sent Kirstan Beaver home in the top of the sixth. The Tornadoes responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to put them at a two-run advantage. In spite of Coffey's double to center field in the top of the seventh, the Buffs were not capable of minimizing the deficit (5-3).

Gilbert led with two hits (2-for-3 effort) while Griffith, Coffey, Overholser, Grindstaff and Beaver all followed with a hit apiece.
