MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 28, 2018) â€"
Garrett Hartley made a strong start in game one before
Mike Perez made a strong start in game two to help send the Milligan College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Kentucky Christian University, 9-0 and 3-1, Wednesday afternoon at Anglin Field.
ÂÂ
HARTLEY, PEREZ SET TONE FOR PITCHING
Hartley went the first four innings in game one allowing only two hits as he,
Chandler Daniels,
Chase Marine and
Gunner Gibson combined for a shutout. The relief staff went an inning apiece with Daniels allowing only one hit and Marine and Gibson allowing only a walk.
ÂÂ
As well as Hartley pitched in game one, Perez pitched just as well in game two. Perez went five innings allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out a career high seven. The only run he gave up was an unearned run in the top of the fifth which made it 2-1.
ÂÂ
Jacob Littleton was the first from the pen in game two, entering in the sixth to help close the door on the Knights. Littleton threw a 1-2-3 top of the sixth before
Connor Simpson struck out two in a perfect seventh.
ÂÂ
EARLY SCORING
Offensively, senior
Chris Patterson got the scoring going quickly in game one. The center fielder tripled on the first pitch of the bottom of the first, then came home to score on a
Cameron Harper sacrifice fly to left field in the next at-bat.
ÂÂ
Patterson scored again on a similar play four innings later when
Jascanel Ferreras hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 6-0. Patterson's runs sandwiched a three-run third inning where Milligan gave Hartley and the Milligan bullpen all the cushion they would need on the way to the 9-0 shutout.
ÂÂ
Bryan Soto and
Garrett Dalton got the scoring going in game two. Although it was not as early as Patterson did in game one, the pair came in to score in the second inning of game two and it proved to be all the scoring the Buffs would need once again. Soto scored on
Juan Vasquez's ground ball, then Dalton scored on a
Hunter Suggs ground ball.
Thomas Miller rounded out the scoring in the nightcap with a two-out inside the park home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth.
ÂÂ
UP NEXT
Milligan hits the road over the weekend for a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series at No. 9 Bryan College. The next home game for the Buffs will be the following weekend, April 6-7, versus Union College.
