BLUEFIELD, Va. (April 3, 2018) â€" Three home runs by the Milligan College softball team highlighted the Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bluefield College on Tuesday afternoon. The Buffs (16-10, 9-3 AAC) defeated the Rams (5-14, 2-10 AAC) for their fifth conference sweep of the season 5-3 in game one and 9-3 in game two.
Though Bluefield started out with the lead after a run in the first inning, senior Rachel Coffey stepped up to the plate to get the Buffs momentum going. Coffey blasted a home run for the first one of the day to tie the game at 1-1. Nonetheless, sophomore and reigning Freshman of the Year Kirstan Beaver connected for a double putting two more runs on the scoreboard for Milligan (3-1).
The dingers were not through for the Buffs. Freshmen Neelee Griffith and Kaylee Frascatore hit two home runs back to back in the top of the fifth proving to be the difference with the Buffs ultimately coming out on top (5-3).
In game two, Jaclyn Jenkins got the scoring going early in the second inning with two RBI's and it was only up from there for the Buffaloes. Milligan touched home seven more times to secure their sixth straight victory (9-3).
Kassi Butcher, reigning AAC pitcher of the week, was credited the win in game one while Brianna Synder came in the seventh for the save. Jenkins earned the win in game two while Josie Milam came in the seventh with the save.
Up next, he Buffs have a quick turnaround returning home to Anglin Field for another AAC doubleheader against Union College on Wednesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. Milligan's senior day will be on Saturday, April 7, against Allen University at 1 p.m.
