MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Aug. 29, 2018) â€"
Roberto Fernandez Garrido scored two goals on four shots to propel Milligan College (1-0) to a 4-0 victory over University of Pikeville (0-2) in their season opener Wednesday night at Anglin Field.
The Buffaloes controlled the pace of the game throughout, never letting Pikeville put together a solid offensive attack.
The victory marks first year head coach
David Lilly's first career win at Milligan.
"I thought we played really well in the first 20 minutes and created some good chances, but Pikeville made it difficult for us and we couldn't capitalize on the chances we had," said Lilly. "In the second half, I thought the guys came out with a lot of energy. I am delighted with the clean sheet and that we scored four great goals. We have some tough games coming up so we can't get too high on this win. We have to stay focused and get ready for Saturday."
MILLIGAN'S STRONG SECOND HALF
After a first half that saw neither team score, the Buffaloes offensive attack came to life in the second. After Pikeville committed a foul in the box, Garrido put Milligan on the board with a penalty shot in the 50th minute.
Garrido followed with his second goal of the match less than two minutes later on a beautiful assist from
Harry Griffin to put Milligan up 2-0.
In the 60th minute, Griffin sent a nice cross from the right side of the pitch to Garrido, who then found
Robell Habte for the Buffs third goal of the match.
Jordan Burch would cap off the scoring for the Buffs as he navigated his way through two defenders and threaded a shot by the near post to make it 4-0.
