Dayton, Tenn. (Sept. 18, 2018) â€" Led by
Kellee Geren's double-double (36 assists and 15 digs), the Milligan College volleyball team (9-2, 3-0) picked up a five-set Appalachian Athletic Conference road victory (12-25, 25-12, 25-15, 21-25, 15-9) over Bryan College (4-9, 1-4) Tuesday night at Summers Gymnasium. This was the Buffs second straight five-set victory and fourth of the season.
SET-BY-SET
After struggling offensively in the first set, Milligan bounced back with a resounding 25-12 win in the second game. The Buffs recorded 14 kills to only four errors on 23 attempts in the second set for a .435 hitting percentage.
Milligan jumped out to a strong start in the third set building an eight-point lead before a 5-0 run by the Lions cut the lead to three at 18-15. The Buffs responded with a 7-0 stretch of their own to take the third game.
Set number four saw six ties throughout as both teams traded blows back-and-forth, before the Lions ultimately pulled out the 25-21 win sending the match to a fifth game.
Milligan opened a 10-4 lead in the fifth set and would use a 3-0 run capped off by a Lions attack error to finish off their third conference win of the season.
GREGORY, GIBSON POWER BUFFS OFFENSE
Freshman
Elise Gregory recorded a match-high 14 kills to go along with 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.
Alyssa Gibson followed with 10 kills on 39 attempts, while
Julie Dockery and
Abby Falcone recorded six each. Geren added five kills on 10 attempts for a match-high .400 hitting percentage.
The nation's leader in digs/game and reigning AAC defender of the week,
Alyssa Rupert, posted 31 digs to anchor the Buffs defense.
Layla Grant provided solid production in the back row with eight digs and four service aces.
Overall, Milligan recorded 44 kills while holding Bryan to 41 on a .044 hitting percentage on the defensive end.

Milligan returns home for the start of a four game homestand beginning with an AAC match against Point University Friday, Sept. 21, at 6:30 p.m. The following day, the Buffs will host the reigning regular season AAC champions, Reinhardt, with first serve set for 11 a.m.
