MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2018) â€" Amy Olvera scored an equalizer in the 62nd minute to highlight a dominating second half for the Milligan College women's soccer team, but in the end the Buffaloes fell to visiting Reinhardt University 2-1 in overtime Wednesday night on Anglin Field.
 
The loss continued the theme of close matches this season, as Milligan (2-4-1, 1-2 AAC) went to overtime for the fourth time. It also marked the sixth time in seven games Milligan had the match either undecided or decided by one goal.
 
OLVERA'S GOAL GIVES BUFFS SECOND HALF LIFE
Reinhardt (5-3, 3-1 AAC) jumped out on top in the ninth minute as part of a relatively even first half, but Milligan flipped the script entirely on the other side of the break. After going mostly back and forth in the first, Milligan dominated the possession in the second during which time the Buffs outshot the Eagles 16-2.
 
Olvera made one of those second half shots count when she scored her second goal of the season. The sequence started with her attempting a pass to Bekah Cundiff for a scoring opportunity, but after the pass was deflected back to her, Olvera blasted it into the back of the net to even the match at 1-1.
 
Milligan continued to press the Reinhardt defense, looking to take the lead. On one such occasion, Olvera nearly made it 2-1, Buffs, when Amy Long made a nice move then laid the ball off for Olvera near the top of the penalty area. Olvera missed just wide.
 
REINHARDT SECURES WIN IN OT
Despite Milligan outshooting Reinhardt 20-7 in regulation, Reinhardt took the only two shots of the overtime period. The last one, scored by Morgan Green in the 93rd minute, sent the Eagles to the Appalachian Athletic Conference win.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
In addition to outshooting Reinhardt in the match, Milligan also tallied more shots on goal (8-2) and corner kicks (9-6). Reinhardt goalkeeper Caroline Johnson made seven saves.
