Buffs outlast Brewton-Parker in series opener

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (Feb. 22, 2019) â€" Chayse Frye hit a home run in the sixth inning before driving in the final go-ahead run in the 12th inning of a 15-10 victory for Milligan College's baseball team over Brewton-Parker College Friday night.

Frye went 3-for-7 with three runs and four RBI's in Milligan's second straight win.

Milligan (3-5) fell behind early and trailed 2-0 heading into the fifth, but a six-run inning highlighted by a Chance Hall three-run homer swung the lead in Milligan's favor. It was 6-4, Milligan, entering the sixth and Frye added to the lead with a home run of his own to make it 9-4 through six.

Brewton-Parker (3-12) rallied in the final three innings with three runs in the seventh followed by a run in the eighth and ninth. Although it forced extra innings, the Buffs looked to win it in the 10th when Blake Dutton homered to lead off the top of the 10th, but once again, BPC rallied with one in the bottom half to keep the game going.

Milligan put the game away in the 12th. Two walks led the inning off before Frye smacked a single to right field to put Milligan into the lead for good, and the Buffs added four more runs that inning to remove any ideas Brewton-Parker had of another rally. Three runs came in via walk while Baily Psathas drove in one with an RBI single.

Camron Harper pitched the eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th and earned the win.

Up next, Milligan and Brewton-Parker will close out the three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The Buffaloes will next be home, weather pending, Tuesday, Feb. 26, for a midweek doubleheader versus University of Pikeville.
