JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2019) â€" Freshman
Chance Hall hit his second home run of the weekend, but the Milligan College baseball team fell to University of Rio Grande, 16-4, Saturday to wrap up Milligan's tournament action over home-opening weekend.
ÂÂ
Milligan (1-5) fell behind early but Hall gave the Buffs life in the bottom of the third inning, smacking his team-leading second home run of the season on an 0-1 count with two out. It scored
Juan Vasquez, who had walked, and
Chayse Frye, who had singled, and answered a three-spot Rio (5-3) posted previously in the top half of the inning.
ÂÂ
Milligan's threat to rally was short-lived, however, as Rio had an answer of its own. The Redstorm scored twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth before putting the game away with seven runs in the sixth.
ÂÂ
Brandon Laboy suffered the loss despite pitching a scoreless first.
TJ Wilson pitched a scoreless seventh for Milligan.
ÂÂ
Up next, Milligan will be home again next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 15-16, for a four-game set against Kentucky Christian University. Teams are on the schedule to play doubleheaders beginning at 1 p.m. both days.
