Buffs heat up in game one
Sowers picked up his second win of the season with his first complete game, going all seven innings and striking out one. He scattered four hits and two walks while allowing only two runs, both of which came after Milligan was already out to a big lead.
ÂÂ
Milligan gave Sowers the lead in the third inning when
Blake Dutton's single drove home
Will Queen with two out. The one-run lead soon became a five-run lead as extra-base hits from
Snaider Torrealba and
Braden Jones helped Milligan score four runs in the fourth. Milligan then added four more runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to put the run rule into effect.
ÂÂ
Dutton was 4-for-4 at the dish, one of four Buffs with multiple hits.
ÂÂ
Game two features more of the same
It was a similar story in game two, as Milligan led 1-0 early after
Juan Vasquez grounded home
William Oliver two batters into the game following a leadoff triple from Oliver. Milligan then made the game lopsided in the second inning with five runs.
ÂÂ
Dutton had a two-RBI single in the inning, and two more runs came home on a Harper at-bat that saw him reach on an error. Dutton went 3-for-4.
ÂÂ
Harper's line on the mound included all seven innings, his third complete game of the year, two hits, two runs, no walks and four strikeouts.
ÂÂ
Up next
Milligan will look to sweep the series when the two team play the finale Sunday at 12 p.m. After that, the Buffs head to University of Pikeville for a midweek nonconference doubleheader Tuesday in Pikeville, Kentucky.
