Women's tennis wins dual against King; men fall

BRISTOL, Tenn. (March 18, 2019) â€" Three singles matches went to a third set, yet the Milligan College women's tennis team still won easily at nearby King University Monday evening. The Milligan women won 6-1 while the men fell 7-0. The match was played at Ida Stone Jones Community Tennis Center in nonconference action.
 
Karson Light and McKenzie Grady each navigated dropping the second set to come away victorious. Light won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Grady won 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 5 singles. The dual match featured two other close matches, including Lexie Hill's at No. 1 singles, which went to a third set, and the No. 2 doubles match, which Light and Chessa Jones won 7-6.
 
The win improved Milligan to 9-5 this season as the Buffs have now won four of their last six. Light's singles victory marked her 10th of the season, improving her to 10-4. Marlaina Peterson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to improve to a team-leading 12-2.
 
On the men's side, Charlie Moseley had the closest result but lost 10-7 in a third set super tiebreaker. King swept all five other singles matches in straight sets after winning the opening point in doubles.
 
Up next, Milligan faces Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union College Wednesday on the road. The Buffs will be home Saturday for a nonconference match against Southeastern University beginning at 11 a.m. at Mathes Tennis Center.
