Buffs Women's Soccer Drops Final Home Contest in Regular Season to No. 11 TMU

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Sunday, the Milligan University women's soccer squad played a makeup Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest on Anglin Field against the No. 11-ranked squad in the nation, the Truett McConnell University (Ga.) Bears. After holding the visitors to no goals through the first half of the contest, the Buffaloes surrendered a pair in the second half to fall to the Bears, 2-0.

Milligan did a masterful job in the first half, defensively, holding TMU to just seven shots. Both sides had one corner kick in the opening 45 minutes, but MU did not have a shot in the period. Three of Truett's shots were on frame and stopped by the Buffs' stand-in goalkeeper, Kylie Malone.

It was a different story in the second half, as the Bears pressured the Buffaloes for almost the entirety of the period. The TMU squad held a massive 16-1 advantage in shots taken over the course of that time, with six of them finishing on goal. The two TMU tallies came in the 53rd and 61st minutes on a header off a corner kick, and then a finish in the box off of a cross, respectively.

The contest ended with a 23-1 shot disparity in the visitors' favor, as the nationally-ranked outfit was too much to handle for an injury-depleted Buffaloes' roster. The single Milligan shot was taken in the waning moments of the contest by Kelsey Miller, but that attempt was not close to challenging the TMU keeper.

It was Malone's first ever appearance in goal for the Buffs, but she held her own, allowing just the two goals on nine shots on frame. She does absorb the loss to her record, which is now 0-1.

On the docket for the Buffaloes is the continuation of their contest against the Columbia College (S.C.) Koalas on the road. The match was suspended with just over two minutes left in the first half, as MU holds a 1-0 lead with just over a half to be played on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.
