Milligan Women's Soccer Rallies to Tie against Dalton State

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Friday evening, the Milligan University women's soccer team played host to Dalton State College at Anglin Field. The back-and-forth game ended in a 1-1 draw, as the Buffs were unable to break the tie in the final minutes.

The first half action got started quickly when the Roadrunners put two shots on the goal in the first five minutes that were saved by Milligan's Emily Robinson. The Buffs responded with eight straight shots, highlighted by a threatening sequence in the 19th minute when a Lauren Hawkley blocked shot bounced to Katelyn Penner who took a shot that bounced off the post and ricocheted to Halle Steele who then took aim and sent a laser beam through the box and hit the crossbar. Milligan finished the period with a nine to five advantage in the shot department.

In the second half, the Roadrunners once again got their offense clicking early, this time with a goal in the first three minutes of the period. Following the goal, Dalton State controlled the pace until the 80th minute, when a cross from Natalie Roper found Halle Steele open in front of the net which she was able to capitalize on for a Milligan goal and tie the score at 1-1. The Buffs were able to use the momentum from the goal to create two more chances in the 82nd and 84th minute, but both Kelsey Miller and Katelyn Penner's attempts missed narrowly to the left and the Roadrunners were let off the hook escaping Anglin Field with a 1-1 draw.

Milligan led the game in shot attempts 18-10 but surprisingly Dalton State had more shots on goal with seven compared to the Buffs' six.

Robinson finished the day with six total saves and her record moved to 1-1-1 in the net on the season.

The Buffs play on their home turf again on Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. against Spartanburg Methodist to open Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
