PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) Sectionals wrapped up Sunday at the Pittsburgh sectional for the Milligan University men's and women's bowling programs, concluding the two-day event of baker format games. Both teams were competing for a qualifying spot in ITC National tournament, as the top four teams from each section earned a qualification. In the end, Milligan men's squad put together a qualifying finish in third place, while the women's team fell just short finishing in sixth.
Coming off day one sitting in third place with 6,381 pins, the Milligan men carried momentum into Sunday and never let their foot off the gas. The Buffs posted a third-block total of 3,156 to maintain their position heading into the final block, then closed the event with their strongest showing of the weekend with a fourth-block total of 3,327, the highest single-block score of any team in the final block. That finishing push gave Milligan a two-day total of 12,864 pins and a third-place finish in the sectional. The Buffs' top performances in the fourth block came from a 253 in Game 50, a 247 in Game 49, a 227 in Game 55 and a 226 in Game 52. Sectional champion McKendree finished with 12,914 total pins, with Trine taking second at 12,901, leaving Milligan just 50 pins off second place.
On the women's side, the Lady Buffs entered Sunday in fifth place with 5,967 pins and worked to chase down the top of the leaderboard throughout the day. Milligan posted a third-block total of 2,895 before adding a fourth-block score of 2,871 to finish with a two-day total of 11,733 pins and a sixth-place finish. The Lady Buffs' top showings in the final block included a 198 in Game 52, a 197 in Game 55, and a 196 in Game 49. McKendree, who led the women's sectional wire-to-wire after posting 6,314 pins on day one, claimed the women's title with a final total of 12,531 pins
Next up for the Buffs will be a trip to Lansing, Mich. For the NAIA National Championships.
