PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – The Milligan University No. 17-ranked women's golf program, as well as the men's golf team, took part in the Southeast Kentucky Orange & Black Collegiate event, hosted by the University of Pikeville Bears at Stonecrest Golf Club in Prestonsburg, Ky. Each of the two squads completed top-half finishes as outfits, with the women placing fourth of eight teams in attendance, and the men ended up sixth out of 13.

The Milligan women were led by senior Bailey McGaha, who tied for sixth place and totaled a three-round score of 227 strokes on the par-70 course. She shot a combined nine-over-par across the first two rounds, before shooting +8 in round three to finish at +17.

Tessa Wilck earned solo possession of 11th place, completing the tournament with 229 strokes. After rounds of 77 and 79 (+16) on day one, Wilck showed out in round three, shooting a 73. That was tied for the fourth-best score among the field in the final round.

Madison Butler, who tied for 19th, shot a 241 (82, 79, 80) for the event. She maintained consistency across the three rounds to help the Buffs reach their eventual fourth-place conclusion.

Layla Fox ended up placing 22nd at 32-over-par, and her round two and three scores were part of the team's overall tally. She carded rounds of 83, 84 and then a stellar 75 on the final 18.

Pernilla Sühl was the final MU women's player to compete, concluding her event at +47 in 27th place. She started the tournament with a round of 79 strokes, which was one of Milligan's top four in the round. Then, though, she tallied an 85 and a 93 on the last two trips through the course.

Milligan ended up in fourth place, and they were 21 strokes out of third after the final hole was played. Overall they took 934 (313, 315, 306) strokes, which was 94-over-par. They finished five strokes in front of Midway, who placed fifth.

The men finished strong in round three to jump up a spot in the standings. Much of that was due to the play of their top finishers, led by Aidan Sinclair. He ended his event with a one-under-par score of 215 strokes on the par-72 layout. He carded a sub-70 round of 69 shots in round one, before shooting 74 and 72 in the final two rounds. He was five shots off the eventual medalist pace, which was -6 for the event.

Francisco de Bethencourt had a round of 69 strokes, as well, but he waited until round three to card his three-under score. Prior to that, he was seven-over-par because of rounds of 75 and 76 in the first and second, respectively. With his final-round effort, he climbed 14 spots to tie for 23rd on day two.

After a consistent two rounds of 75-stroke scores, Hugo Lundberg shot a +6 in round three to finish at 228 strokes and in a tie for 39th place as the third MU placer.

Similarly, Evan Caldwell was enjoying a 76 and a 75 in his first two rounds, before a 80-shot score in the third round sidetracked his attempt to climb the leaderboard. He ended up at 231 strokes and a tie for 45th place.

Carson Murphy made his debut for the Buffs at the event, as the freshman placed in a tie for 64th at 242 (81, 82, 79) strokes.

The Milligan men trailed Georgetown (Ky.) by nine strokes entering round three, and they were able to outshoot the Tigers by 12 in the third round to take over a three-stroke advantage and earn sixth place for the tournament.

Next up for both squads is the home tournament hosted each year by Milligan, the East Tennessee Collegiate at Johnson City Country Club on Sept. 28-29. The teams will be looking for their first tourney victories of the fall campaign.
