Team effort leads No. 23 Buffs past Reinhardt

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 30, 2016) â€" Five Buffaloes reached double figures in scoring as the No. 23 Milligan College women's basketball team closed out the month of November with an Appalachian Athletic Conference win over Reinhardt University, 76-66, Wednesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Senior Hayley Wyrick and sophomore Sarah Robinson led Milligan (7-3, 4-0 AAC) with 14 points apiece while Lindsee Price, Mackenzie Raizor and Morgan Gose finished with 13. Raizor neared the double-double mark with nine rebounds while Price was close to the triple-double mark with eight assists and six rebounds.

Wyrick was on the way to a 40-point game with 10 first-quarter points as the Buffs jumped out to a hot start. They led 26-19 through the first 10 minutes after making eight of their first nine shots to open the game. Wyrick had a pair of 3-pointers during that stretch, and Price, Kelly Barnett and Robinson added triples of their own as five of the first eight made baskets came from the perimeter.

Milligan led the entire way, allowing Reinhardt (7-1, 3-1 AAC) to trim it to one only once in the second quarter and keeping a lead of at least eight throughout the second half. In fact, after Milligan opened up a 41-33 lead at the halftime break, the Buffs extended their lead to as many as 20 in the second half.

Milligan shot 38.1 percent from the field while holding Reinhardt to 32.9 percent. From three, the Buffs were 28.2 while the visiting Eagles were 21.1 percent.

Reinhardt, which entered the night with a share of the lead in the AAC along with Milligan and Union, was led by Rebecca Cheeks' 19 points and eight rebounds. Bria White scored 16 points and added 13 rebounds for Reinhardt.

Milligan, now the only unbeaten team in the AAC, will look to continue its perfect start on the road on Saturday, Dec. 3, in an AAC matchup against Montreat College in nearby Montreat, North Carolina. The Buffs are back home on Thursday, Dec. 8, versus Bluefield College in the final home game of 2016.
