Softball splits AAC home opener against Point

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 9, 2018) â€" Freshman Neelee Griffith's double to deep center got the Buffs rolling in game two in order to secure their AAC split against Point University on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffs fell in game one 8-2 and came out on top in game two winning in five innings, 10-2.

GAME ONE | 7 INNINGS

The Skyhawks connected for two hits right off the bat in the top of the first but remained scoreless due to the Buffs' resilient defense. However, over the course of three innings Point touched home four times putting them at a four-point advantage despite a scoreless fifth and sixth inning. Point earned four more runs in the top of the seventh which proved to be the difference.

Milligan started cracking their bats in the bottom of the seventh after a double by pitcher Jaclyn Jenkins, her second double of the game, enabling the Buffs to score twice. It proved not enough as the Skyhawks held them to two (8-2).

MILLIGAN'S DOMINATING GAME TWO | 5 INNINGS

In spite of Milligan unable to score until the final inning in game one, the Buffs carried over the momentum from the bottom of the seventh into the second game. Griffith's double in the bottom of the second sent Morgan Overholser home while Jenna Gilbert's single through the shortstop hole sent Griffith home. To follow, fellow freshman Kaylee Frascatore also hit a double sending Erica Roller and Gilbert home. (4-0)

Milligan held Point scoreless for the next two innings all the while putting up two more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Griffith homered to left-center for the first run prior to Roller's triple to deep right field. Gilbert's single then sent home Roller for the second run.

The Skyhawks responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth making it 6-2. However, Milligan took off in the bottom of the fifth scoring four more runs off of four hits securing their five-inning victory over Point.
