MILLIGAN, Tenn. — Milligan University's women's soccer squad took to Anglin Field on Saturday afternoon for another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tilt looking for their fourth straight victory against the Brenau University (Ga.) Golden Tigers. Milligan did exactly that, scoring a pair of goals in each set to clinch a 4-0 triumph.
The Buffs now sit at 6-2-2 overall and 5-1-1 in AAC play this season.
Â
Milligan was attacking early and often in the first half, as the buffs scored their first goal in the 14
th minute off the left boot of
Halle Steele, as her eighth goal of the season was scored off an assist from
Katelyn Penner. The Buffs kept attacking the net and scored their second tally in the 31
st minute, as
Destini Martinez headed home a cross by
Natalie Roper off a set piece to make it 2-0. Overall, the Buffaloes held a 13-9 shot advantage in the first half.
Â
In the second half,
Diane Maillis tallied a header goal of her own just a few minutes into the period. The 52
nd-minute tally was her second goal of the year and came from a perfectly placed cross by
Lauren Hawkley. It was Hawkley who would set up yet another goal for the Buffs in the 71
st minute, as
Halle Steele took her pass and curled around a defender to send a rolling shot past the keeper into the twine, making it 4-0. An 8-3 shot lead in the second half for Milligan helped them extend their advantage and ultimately take the simple 4-0 victory.
Â
Milligan totaled seven shots on frame in the win, with Steele leading the way with three of them. Maillis had a pair in the battle, and Martinez and
Skyler Miller added the two remaining attempts on net.Â
Emily Robinson played the vast majority of the contest in net, saving all four shots that she faced to earn a win in goal, improving her record to 6-2-2.
Mia Brown played the final 17 minutes of the game for the squad and did not face a shot on net.
Â
Milligan now looks ahead to three straight road matchups, as the Buffs head to Montreat (N.C.) on Wednesday, Oct. 8 to start that stretch away from Anglin Field. Kick off is set for 5 p.m. in Black Mountain, N.C.
