SILVIS, Ill. — Francisco de Bethencourt of Milligan University's men's golf team continued play in the second round of the NAIA National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. on Wednesday. After finishing round one at two-over par, de Bethencourt came back with another solid outing to make the cut as a top-six individual in the tournament.
Starting on the front nine after beginning on the back nine a day prior, he made par on his first four holes before carding two bogeys. However, de Bethencourt closed with back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to make the turn at even-par 32. Battling windy conditions on the back nine, he parred five holes but struggled down the stretch, carding three bogeys and a double bogey to finish at five-over par 75.
After making the cut, de Bethencourt is set for a 10 a.m. tee time in the third round. He will compete in a threesome alongside Jose Vidal of Oakland City University and Gustav Fredriksson of Cumberland University, as he looks to continue his strong play at a difficult course on the national stage.
