WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Milligan University indoor track & field's second event of the season took place on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the JDL Fast Track. It was a stellar day for the squads, who posted 19 personal-best times and three national standards at the meet.
In the women's 60m Hurdles, the debut of
Aleah Soderman concluded with a strong 9.70-second sprint, which would have been a top-eight time in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) last year.
The men's 60m Hurdles included
Brayden Simpson, who improved on his time at this event last season by 0.10 seconds. He placed eighth overall.
Kenny Carlton notched a time that would have placed in the top three in the AAC last year in his collegiate debut in the race.
Hunter Crook came away with a 7.08-second time in the men's 60m Dash, which was just off his personal-best time.
For the men's Pole Vault, Philip Lotivio came in second overall with a personal-best height of 4.40m in the event.
The highlight of the day came in the women's 3000m, in which
Ellen-Mary Kearney posted the second-fastest time in NAIA history and a personal-best, NAIA 'A' standard mark of 9:23.37. It was a meet-record time, as well.
Kerigan Lewis won the second section of the 3000m with a time of 10:20.67 and
Patricia Barrera was right behind her in fourth with a time of 10:25.65.
On the men's side,
Aaron Gottlied had a personal-best run of 8:38.32 to demolish his previous career mark. He placed eighth as an individual.
Rowen Moser-Bryan also had a great debut on the track, running a 8:46.70 to finish 13
th.
Soderman was back on the loop in the women's 400m, where she posted a 1:01.23 to place 12
th and earn a personal-best clip.
Then,
Kaleb Spears ran an outstanding men's 400m in 48.88, which was his new personal-best time. The sophomore placed second in the open section and fifth overall.
Carter Windham took part in the men's 800m for Milligan. He finished in fourth place overall to begin his senior campaign.
Back to Soderman, she completed the women's 200m Dash in 27.47 seconds, which was her new personal-best mark.
On the men's side of the 200m, Crook posted a 22.50, Spears clocked in at 22.69 and Simpson tallied a 22.70 to all finish in the event's top 30.
Marti Molins Rallo began his track season strongly, posting a fourth-place finish in the men's Mile. He clocked in at 4:15.88 in the event.
Bryson Lewis came in 15
th in the race at 4:26.48.
The collegiate debut of
Trevor Sinard in the men's Weight Throw equaled a standout distance of 14.66m on his second attempt, earning him a 12
th-place conclusion.
In the women's 5000m race,
Annabelle Stewart and
Alyssa Bearzi finished first and second in the event, both notching NAIA 'A' standards. Stewart clocked a 17:14.60 and Bearzi finished in 17:16.71. Both of their times beat the previous meet record, as well.
McKenzie Fitzgerald also had a personal-best time of 18:26.80 in the event to finish in sixth.
"Very similar to Thursday, I am just really pleased with the effort from both programs," stated head coach
Chris Layne. "There was a lot of support for one another the entire day, and the performances were also really encouraging for December."
Both teams will now look ahead to this Saturday, Dec. 6, when they head out to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff event. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. that morning.
