NEW ORLEANS, La. - On Monday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) tapped
Ellen-Mary Kearney as the nation's NAIA Women's Athlete of the Week for her performance in the 3000m at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff on the JDL Fast Track this Saturday.
A run for Kearney that ended up counting as the second-fastest women's indoor 3000m in NAIA history helped her earn the accolade, as she clocked in at 9:23.37 to notch an NAIA 'A' standard, a personal-best time and a new meet record by over 20 seconds. She outpaced a pair of runners from NCAA Division I Wake Forest University that placed second and third in the race, as well. For the season, she now leads the way in the 3000m across the NAIA.
