Sinclair's All-Tournament Performance Powers Milligan Golf To Fifth Place Finish at the Koala Classic

COLUMBIA, S.C. – On Monday and Tuesday, the Milligan men's golf team played 36 holes at Timberlake Country Club in Columbia, S.C. for the Koala Classic hosted by Columbia College. The Buffs played two rounds, one each day, and in the end finished in fifth place out of the 19 teams in attendance. Aidan Sinclair put together two great rounds to finish in a tie for second, earning All-Tournament honors and highlighting the two-day event for Milligan.

Sinclair was playing well all weekend with two sub-80 rounds. However, he did get off to a bit of a slow start with a double bogey and bogey in the first nine holes on Monday. He was then able to bounce back on the second nine, rattling off three birdies to finish three-under on the back and two-over overall. On day two, he collected 14 pars on his way to another +2 final scorecard. The back-to-back rounds of 73 earned him All-Tournament honors in a tie for second place.

Francisco de Bethencourt was the next-highest on the leaderboard for Milligan at T-14th. De Bethencourt began the tournament with a five-over-par 76 in round one, and came back on day two with the same score of 76. Overall it was a great showing for him, finishing with 152 total strokes and a final score of +10.

It was Hjalmar Liljenberg who rounded out the top-20 finishers for the Buffs in T-18th. He was able to improve his score by seven strokes on day two, as after shooting a +10, 81 in round one, he came back and fired a nice three-over-par 74. Overall, he finished with 155 total strokes at +13.

Hugo Lundberg was the final scoring player from Milligan at +37 and 179 strokes in total. On day one, he put together a round of 84 to finish 13-over-par. However, he struggled on the second day, finishing with a 24-over-par, 95.

Manuel Gutierrez was the fifth golfer for Milligan, who started with a seven-over-par, 78, but was unable to finish the event, withdrawing in round two.

Milligan took a total of 626 strokes, which was a +58 total for the tournament. They ended up in fifth, outpacing UVA Wise by four strokes and were just three shots back of Columbia International University in fourth.

The men will now look forward to the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout hosted on their home track at Johnson City Country Club on Tuesday, April 7.
