Milligan Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at AAC Fall Showcase

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – On Monday and Tuesday, the Milligan University men's golf team competed at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Fall Showcase. The event marked the end of the fall competition schedule and served as a barometer for the competitive spring season. The Buffs finished eighth out of the 14 AAC programs in attendance. Individually, they saw three golfers in the top 50.

Francisco de Bethencourt held the lowest score out of Milligan's six golfers at the conclusion of the event, finishing with a total score of 11 strokes over par (155) for 21st place. On Monday, he shot three over par on the front nine and four over par on the back nine for a 79. On Tuesday, he collected three birdies on his way to an impressive score of 76.

Freshman Aidan Sinclair was the next highest finisher for Milligan going 13 over par (157) to finish in 28th place. He struggled in the first round with a score of ten over par (82), but bounced back in the second round by shooting a phenomenal round of 75 with two birdies and five bogeys. He was one of only 17 golfers to finish with a score of 75 or better on the second day.

Manuel Gutierrez was the third Buff to close out his event. He tied for 36th with a cumulative score of +15 (159). He started his event with an 83 in the first round and improved that by seven strokes in the second round at 76.

Another Freshman, Evan Caldwell finished in 58th place at +21 for a total stroke count of 165. He shot eight over par in the first round and then 13 over par in the second round.

The final counting score for the Buffs came courtesy of Hjalmar Liljenberg who finished +27 (171) for 76th place. He was consistent throughout the event, as he finished with only a one stroke difference in his first and second round scores. In the first round he finished at 14 over par and in the second round he finished at 13 over par.

Kolben Gregg played the event as an individual and finished in 70th place at 26 over par for a total stroke count of 170. In the first round he shot 83 and in the second he shot 87.

The squad will now look ahead to their spring season, in which they hope to make improvements to be in the conversation with the conference's top programs.
