Buffs Golf Squads Play at Star-Studded Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — On Monday and Tuesday the Milligan men's and (RV) women's golf programs were in Nashville, Tenn. at the Hermitage Golf Course for the annual Music City Classic, hosted by Cumberland University. Both teams had similar finishes at the tournament, as the men tied for 12th out of 21 squads and the women placed 13th out of 21, with all 12 teams ahead of them ranked higher in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Poll.

The men's top finisher was Aidan Sinclair, who built off his win at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout last week. He shot four under par for the tourney, shooting under par in all three rounds (70, 71, 71). He tied for 12th as an individual.

Francisco de Bethencourt tied for 48th at three over par. He boasted even-par rounds of 72 in his first two sets of 18, before shooting a 75 to conclude the tourney.

Manuel Gutierrez tied for 62nd, but he managed a strong round of 71 strokes in round two. That performance was sandwiched by a 75 to start and a 76 to close out the event.

Evan Caldwell (T-90th; 86, 73, 72) and Hugo Lundberg (105th; 79, 83, 89) rounded out the list of MU golfers.

The Buffaloes' men shot a 13-over-par 877 for the three-round tournament, with their top round coming in the second, where they shot 287. They totaled 296 in the first round and 294 in the final round. They tied for 12th place with Tennessee Wesleyan.

The women were paced by Bailey McGaha, who tied for 32nd place with a 13-over-par score of 229 strokes. She was three over par in round one with 75 strokes before shooting 78 and 76 across her final two rounds.

Not far behind McGaha was Mallory TeVrucht, who totaled just three more strokes than her teammate to tie for 40th place. Her best round was her middle one, in which she totaled 75 strokes. She had rounds of 78 and 79 strokes on the front and back ends of her tournament, respectively.

Tessa Wilck (74, 82, 83) and Madison Butler (83, 78, 78) achieved total scores of 239 strokes apiece. They tied for 65th place. Wilck had the best round of any Lady Buff, shooting 74 in round one.

Catalina Easley (T-76th; 84, 77, 81) closes out the list of Milligan golfers for the event.

The Lady Buffs placed 13th out of 21 teams, with all 12 teams finishing ahead of them being ranked higher than Milligan in the most recent Top 25 Coaches' Poll. They totaled 932 strokes as a team to finish 68 shots over par.

The two teams now look ahead to their respective Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships, with the men coming first on April 20-22 at the Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville, Ga. The women's tourney takes place on April 27-29 at the Governors Towne Club in Acworth, Ga.
